Slippery Streams - CRM 4.0 Setup Update Ships

One of my favorite new features of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 is the ability to check for updates prior to setup running.  This all but guaranteed that Microsoft would not have to issue a "recall" of the RTM bits as they would be able to update even the setup package if required.  This was a problem for any early "downloaders" of CRM 3.0 several years ago.  Anyway, in addition to being able to fix setup... this feature now allows Microsoft to slipstream fixes into the installation bits going forward.  It appears that the first of these updates has now shipped as you can see from the server set screens below:

SlipStream_Check

SlipStream_DL

SlipStream_Finish

The update appears to update the following files:

  • Microsoft.Crm.Upgrade.Customization.dll
  • Microsoft.Crm.Platform.Sdk.dll
  • Microsoft.Crm.Admin.AdminService.dll

The new build number is 4.0.7333.1003 up from the RTM build of 4.0.7333.3

I of course have no idea what this update fixes, but the update of Microsoft.Crm.Upgrade.Customizations.dll is encouraging as it would seem to suggest that improvements have already been made to the code that handles upgrades from CRM 3.0.

Cheers,
